B.K.S. Iyengar

December 1918-August 2014

 

Mr. Iyengar was the founder of the style of yoga known as "Iyengar Yoga" and was considered one of the foremost yoga teachers in the world. He wrote many books on yoga practice and philosophy including Light on Yoga, Light on Pranayama and Light on the Sutras of Patanjali,  Light on Life and Yoga Wisdom & Practice.

 

Called the "king of yogis" and named one of Time magazine's most influencial people, B.K.S. Iyengar brought yoga to the West with his pioneering teaching in the 60's and 70's. The result was an explosion of growth in yoga that is seen today. His invention of props, revolutionized the art of yoga. 

 

With its use of props and modifications, the Iyengar method allows access for all ages, body types and levels of conditioning.
